Church building in Old East Village damaged in doorway fire
Dundas Street was closed for part of Thursday morning
The London Fire Department says there are no reported injuries in a fire that damaged a church building in the city's Old East Village neighbourhood Thursday morning.
At around 8:49 a.m., crews were called to 920 Dundas Street where they came across a fire burning outside of the building.
Firefighters were quickly able to contain it, said platoon chief Brent Shea.
"The damage is less than $200,000, and mostly contained in the exterior of the building," said Shea.
The building, located next to Open Door Christian Fellowship, is used as the church's office and for youth events, said deacon Don Harloff.
"There was a homeless person trying to stay warm in our front vestibule, and it got out of control," Harloff said.
London police will remain on the scene for some time as the fire department works to investigate the cause.
