The number of people who voted in advance polls for the Kitchener Centre provincial byelection was 5,405 — slightly less than half the voters who cast a ballot in advance polls for the 2022 general election.

Elections Ontario released the numbers on Saturday and said 6.2 per cent of registered voters had so far cast a ballot. That's compared to 10,858 people, or 12.8 per cent of registered voters, who voted early in June 2022.

The general election had 10 days of advance polls, compared to three for the byelection.

People can still vote early in the byelection by going to the returning office in downtown Kitchener. People can vote by special ballot at the office until 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

On Thursday, polling stations will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. People can search for their polling location on the Elections Ontario website.

There are 18 candidates on the ballot for this byelection.
