Provincial byelection in Kitchener Centre called for end of November
Voting day for residents in the riding will be Nov. 30

A date has been set for the Kitchener Centre provincial byelection.
The premier's office said a writ was issued Wednesday under Section 9.1 of the Election Act for a byelection. Under the provincial Election Act, elections have to be called on a Wednesday and held the fifth Thursday after the writ was issued.
That means voting day for residents in the riding will be Nov. 30.
The Kitchener Centre seat has been vacant since July, when former NDP MPP Laura Mae Lindo stepped down. Lindo announced in January the high cost of child care was part of reason she was resigning.
Back then, Lindo told CBC News, as single parent who doesn't live in Toronto, the cost of child care was above and beyond what she would normally pay as a parent with a job locally.
Candidates for upcoming byelection
The Green, Liberal, NDP and Progressive Conservative parties have selected candidates for the byelection, with the most recent one named on Monday.
Two Kitchener city councillors are running for the seat. Ward 10 Coun. Aislinn Clancy was chosen as the Green Party of Ontario candidate. Ward 9 Coun. Debbie Chapman is the candidate for the NDP.
The Ontario Liberal Party nominated Kelly Steiss as the party's candidate in the upcoming byelection.
The Progressive Conservatives named Rob Elliott as the party's candidate.
