Man, 19, dead after car collides with snowplow in St. Catharines

A 19-year-old man has died following a collision involving a car and a snowplow in St. Catharines, Ont., Monday morning.

Around 1:15 a.m. officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS), the St. Catharines Fire Department and Niagara Emergency Medical Service (NEMS), responded to a collision on Glenridge Avenue, in the area between Lockhart Drive and John Macdonell Street.

Police said in a news release that their initial investigation has determined a red Pontiac Vibe was travelling north on Glenridge Avenue when the vehicle lost control, crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with a snowplow travelling south on Glenridge Avenue.

Police say a 19-year-old St. Catharines resident, who was driving the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Detectives assigned to the NRPS Collision Reconstruction Unit have taken over the investigation, and are being supported by detectives from the NRPS Forensic Services Unit.

In an earlier post on X, police said the road was expected to be closed for about three hours.
