'Another day, another floatie': Marine unit shares warning after yet another rescue

"Another day, another floatie rescue!"

The Hamilton police marine unit shared that message on Twitter Monday afternoon along with a photo of a big blue and white inflatable that appears boat-shaped.

Officers say they rescued two women who were aboard the float when it blew three kilometres off shore at Van Wagner's Beach.

The women were brought to safety less than a week after a family floating on a massive pink flamingo was plucked from Lake Ontario after it also drifted far from land.

Police say those three adults spent four hours floating before dropping temperatures and a few large ships passing nearby pushed them to call 911 around 2 a.m. and ask for help.

Const. Lorraine Edwards described it as a "very unique rescue."

"These devices people use are recreational, fun, relaxing … unfortunately they're just not made for these large bodies of water unless we have some sort of measures in place to keep them where they're at," she added at the time.

The marine unit shared a warning of its own with the photo of the floatie Monday.

"These items should be secured to shore. Off-shore winds can take them out quickly," read the tweet. "Be aware of conditions [and] prepare accordingly."
