4 children allegedly assaulted at daycare in Spruce Grove, police say
Parkland RCMP say no charges have been laid, police are looking for more alleged victims
RCMP are investigating what they describe as alleged assaults of four children at a daycare west of Edmonton.
Parkland RCMP say the alleged assaults happened at Little Stars Montessori Early Learning Center in Spruce Grove on Feb. 19, 2025 and were reported between March 6 and March 12.
To date, four alleged victims have been identified, although RCMP believe there could be more.
"We were notified by some family in Spruce Grove [that] a local daycare had reported to them that there were some allegations of assault that took place. Once the parents were notified, they then notified the RCMP detachment here in town," said Const. Brody Dyson with Parkland RCMP.
The daycare was previously under AHS inspection for violations as recent as Dec. 9, 2024. Violations included improper diapering and inadequate cleaning measures.
Thursday night, the province issued a probationary licence for Little Stars Montessori Early Learning Center, citing safety concerns.
"As a result of significant concerns regarding children's safety, Jobs, Economy and Trade has put Little Stars Montessori Early Learning Center on a probationary licence and temporarily removed their ability to care for infants," the province said in a news release.
"The licence will expire on June 12, 2025. Child Care Licensing is closely monitoring the program."
The temporary removal of the program's ability to care for infants will affect seven children, the government said. The program is required to notify affected families.
Police have not laid any charges, but are looking for more alleged victims to come forward. Police said the daycare is co-operating with the investigation.
The owners of Little Stars Montessori Early Learning Center declined to comment.
