Noisy vehicle bylaw needs more research: report
Edmonton's plan to expand its crackdown on noisy vehicles to cars and trucks has hit some roadblocks.
A new report to council from city administration states that setting allowable noise levels and testing procedures for cars and trucks to support a bylaw "will not realistically be in place for 2010."
The city rolled out new rules in July to target loud motorcycles. But Edmonton Police must gather more information before it can include cars and trucks.
EPS needs to first find out if procedures have been developed to test noise on cars and trucks, and whether the service has the capacity to enforce a new bylaw.
How the motorcycle bylaw stands up to court challenges is also another factor.
City administration plans to report back to council on the issue in March.
