The intersection at 111th Avenue and 106th Street will be closed for the entire Victoria Day weekend due to LRT construction, the city says.

In a news release Wednesday, the City of Edmonton said the closure is due to expedited track rehabilitation for the LRT line running across 111th Avenue.

The city said crews will stop vehicle traffic on 111th Avenue across 106th Street from 8 p.m. on Friday until 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Metro LRT Line will also not be running north of Kingsway/Royal Alex LRT station from 8 p.m. on Friday until the end of service on Monday.

LRT replacement bus service will run from the NAIT/Blatchford Market station to the Kingsway/Royal Alex station every 20 minutes over the long weekend, and the shared-use path adjacent to the intersection will remain open during the road closure.

The city said the construction is to address aging infrastructure and is part of its efforts to improve the longevity of Edmonton's LRT system.
