Teen girl dies after being struck and pinned under SUV while crossing road in northeast Calgary
17-year-old was in marked crosswalk at 26th Avenue N.E. and Rundlehorn Drive
A teen girl died of injuries she sustained when she was struck by an SUV while crossing a road in the northeast Calgary community of Pineridge on Wednesday, police say.
Officers responded to a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian at 26th Avenue N.E. and Rundlehorn Drive just before 2 p.m.
Police say the teen was using a marked crosswalk when she was struck by the Ford EcoSport and ended up pinned underneath it.
Despite efforts from first responders to save her, the 17-year-old succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, police say.
The driver of the SUV, a 75-year-old woman, remained at the scene and was not injured. Investigators say there is no indication that speed or alcohol were factors in the incident.
The possibility that the driver failed to obey a stop sign is being investigated, police say.
No charges have been laid.
