A 23-year-old woman who was found injured on the Nose Creek Pathway early Monday morning has died, Calgary police say.

Investigators believe she was assaulted given the seriousness of her injuries.

Police say they were called to the pathway near the 1100 block of 32nd Avenue N.E. around 4 a.m., after a passerby found Jelisa Maschki badly hurt.

Maschki was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. She remained on life support until her death, police say.

Investigators are trying to learn more about the hours or days leading up to the alleged assault and have released a security camera image of Maschki taken Sunday in hopes that someone will recognize her or her clothing and come forward.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, and police hope to gain answers about the injuries she sustained and what caused her death.

"We are looking for any information from friends, or people who may have had contact with Jelisa on the night of Sunday, Dec. 8, or the morning of Monday, Dec. 9," Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson said in a police release.
