Convicted Jan. 6 rioter arrested in Whistler 4 years after U.S. Capitol was stormed

A man convicted and sentenced to nine months in jail for his role in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol in 2024 was arrested in Whistler, B.C., four years to the day after the riot.

Police say officers and firefighters responded to a burning Mitsubishi Outlander on Jan. 3 in Sumas Mountain Regional Park. When the flames were put out, they discovered what appeared to be human remains.

Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc said Wednesday that U.S. president-elect Donald Trump’s assertions that Canada should become the 51st state should be taken seriously, after he initially dismissed them as a joke.

Winter isn't cancelled just yet, Environment Canada says, following mild December for much of B.C.

Despite warm temperatures across most of B.C. so far this season, cool temperatures and more precipitation may be on the way around Jan. 19, Environment Canada says.
