10 injured, 2 of them critically, after multi-vehicle crash near Whistler, ambulance service says

Ten people were sent to hospital Wednesday, with two of them listed as critical, after a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 99 near Whistler, according to B.C. Emergency Health Services (BCEHS).

Crash occurred between Callaghan Valley Road and Brew Creek Forest Service Road

Ten people were sent to hospital Wednesday, with two of them listed as critical, after a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 99 near Whistler, according to B.C. Emergency Health Services (BCEHS).

DriveBC said the incident occurred between Callaghan Valley Road and Brew Creek Forest Service Road near the "Welcome to Whistler" sign. Police and health officials responded to the scene around 9 a.m. PT.

Police said just before 2:45 p.m. PT that the highway had reopened to alternating traffic, and drivers should expect delays.

The stretch of highway was closed for nearly six hours due to the collision.

"Drivers should also continue to exercise caution when travelling the Sea to Sky corridor today due to mixed snow and rain weather conditions," Cpl. Katrina Boehmer said in a news release.

BCEHS said two people were sent to hospital in critical condition. Eight other people were sent to hospital in stable condition. 

Nicole Eastman, who was driving to Whistler at the time of the crash, said she saw a passenger van flipped on its side.

"[It's] likely people who are visitors to Whistler, and [I'm] just really hoping for the best for them and that everybody recovers quickly," she told CBC News.
