Burnaby man charged with murder after woman's body found near Stave Lake
Police have yet to confirm victim's identity
A Burnaby man has been charged with the targeted murder of a woman whose body was discovered near Stave Lake in Mission earlier this week.
Ryan Jack Armstrong, 29, is facing a charge of second-degree murder and indignity to a human body.
Police say they believe they know who the victim is, but they are waiting for an autopsy to confirm the identity before releasing the name.
"Our early investigative theory supports this as a targeted homicide and it is believed that the victim and suspect were known to each other," said Sgt. Stephanie Ashton.
"An important piece to this investigation was the support of the public who came forward with information that has aided in the rapid progression from initial investigation to charge approval," said Ashton.
Mission RCMP were called to Florence Lake Forest Service Road after someone driving along the road found the remains on Monday night. The investigation was then turned over to IHIT.
Armstrong is scheduled to appear in court on April 21, 2016.
