Man handed 9-year sentence for killing of 54-year-old in Delta, B.C.

The man accused of killing 54-year-old Dana Gilbertson in Delta, B.C., in 2022 has been found guilty and sentenced by a B.C. Supreme Court judge.

Aaron Spencer Dutiaume, 34, is convicted of manslaughter using a firearm, according to a spokesperson with the B.C. Prosecution Service. 

He was sentenced in New Westminster on Dec. 4 to nine years in prison, minus the 627 days he has already spent in custody. 

Delta police say Dutiaume was arrested on Feb.12, 2022, eight days after Gilbertson was found suffering from gunshot wounds in a residence in the 11800-block of 92nd Avenue. He later died of his injuries.

Dutiaume was originally charged with second-degree murder.
