A Filipino take on the Stampede breakfast
No matter what's on the menu, the result is the same — food brings communities together.
The CBC Stampede posse got their fill of community spirit as they stopped by three Stampede events on Sunday.
Stampeders who were looking for something a little different made their way to the 3rd annual Filipino Stampede breakfast off International Avenue.
Puppies, heavy metal, and a mascot dance-off. What could go wrong?
Guests enjoyed a traditional Filipino breakfast that included fried rice, sweet and spicy sausage, hot dogs and sweet buns.
The event showcased the vibrancy of the local Filipino community that is embraced by Calgarians.
The big crowd was entertained by live performances as well as a spur of the moment mascot dance-off where Ceebee — the CBC Kids' mascot — broke out all the moves without breaking a sweat.
The annual Fiesta Filipino YYC takes place on the September long weekend.
Community spirit was the driving force behind the Riverbend pancake breakfast.
The 20th annual event attracted Stampeders from all over the city with a variety of activities including live music, pony rides, wagon rides, bouncy castles, a climbing wall and fire trucks.
The 5,000 people who attended included a group of students from Norway who took recycling to the next level by bringing their own plates.
And it was a puppy free-for-all in Bowness as dog lovers gathered to share their Stampede spirit at the 6th annual Puppy Pancake Brunch.
Owners were able to spoil their dogs for the day by treating them to their very own healthy hotcakes.
The day was dedicated to several of the local rescue shelters in the community.
The dogs were curious but didn't quite know what to make of Ceebee no matter how much they sniffed.
