Cowpokes from across the city turned out en masse for the 8th annual Fourth Street Pancake Showdown on Thursday.
Hot weather and a sun-soaked sky made for long lineups, but it was well worth the wait as pancake seekers sampled gourmet hot cakes from a variety of different businesses on the block. Tasters judged the creative variations of a classic flapjack they deemed to be the most delicious – and there was no shortage of variety as pancakes ranged from salty to super sweet!
The champion of the event, Belle Southern BBQ, won the coveted pancake showdown trophy with their creation of buttermilk flapjacks with sweet Georgia peach compote, whipped cream and syrup.
CBC Kids' mascot, Ceebee, had fun posing for pictures with children, adults and even pets. Ceebee, along with the CBC Calgary Stampede posse, will be making appearances at numerous Stampede events in different communities over the next ten days.
