Service that drives people home in their own cars short about 38 volunteers
Operation Red Nose in Winnipeg is still looking for volunteers ahead of the biggest party night of the year.
At one point last week, the volunteer service that drives people home in their own cars was short more than 100 volunteers, co-ordinator Sharra Hinton said.
"We started putting the call out to the community at large late last week, and it's paying off," Hinton said. "[But] we're still looking for another 38 volunteers."
The response time for Operation Red Nose volunteers to get people home from New Years parties is about 30 minutes, she said. However, it could be longer if they don't get enough volunteers.

How it works
Operation Red Nose operates in municipalities across Canada during the Christmas and new year holiday season, offering party-goers a free, safe ride home. Volunteers pick you up and drive to a destination of your choice, in your own car.
The service, which runs Nov. 27 until New Year's Day, is free, but donations are accepted and forwarded to local community organizations.
Last year, more than $1.5 million was redistributed to non-profit youth organizations and/or amateur sports organizations across the country.
Those in Winnipeg who want the service or want to volunteer can call 204-947-6673 (NOSE).
