Here’s everything you need to know about what’s open and closed as we ring in 2016

Most malls, banks and other businesses are open with limited hours on New Year's Eve and closed on New Year's Day in Winnipeg.
Drive safely and celebrate:
  • Winnipeg Transit offers free bus rides New Year's Eve starting at 7:00 p.m. until end of service, the last buses leave downtown at about 1:38 a.m.
  • Operation Red Nose(external link) offers safe lifts home from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. on New Year's Eve.
Liquor Marts:
  • New Year's Eve: most Liquor Marts open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Winnipeg Regional Health Authority:
  • All hospitals are open.
  • QuickCare clinics open 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. New Year's Eve and 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on New Year's Day.
City services:
  • Civic offices will also be closed on New Year's Day.
Recycling and garbage collection:
  • Recycling and garbage collection schedules operate on normal hours New Year's Eve.
  • No recycling and garbage collection service on New Year's Day (single-family home pick-up day moves to Saturday, Jan. 2)
Winnipeg Transit:
  • Free bus service on New Year's Eve (from 7:00 p.m. to end of service)
  • New Year's Day: Sunday schedule.
Winnipeg Parking Authority:
  • New Year's Eve: open 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • New Year's Day: closed.
Leisure centres and swimming pools:
  • New Year's Eve: most leisure centres and pools to close at 4:00 p.m.
  • New Year's Day: all leisure centres and pools are closed on New Year's Day.
Winnipeg Public Library:
  • New Year's Eve: all libraries closed at 5:00 p.m.
  • New Year's Day: all libraries closed.
  • Downloadable eBooks, catalogue searching and holds/renewals are available anytime online(external link).
