Shary Boyle on her first major solo exhibit in nearly 10 years
The acclaimed Canadian artist joined Tom Power to discuss her new solo exhibit, Outside the Palace of Me, which asks the audience to think deeply — and honestly — about race, gender, colonialism and more.
In a Q interview, the acclaimed Canadian artist discussed her exhibit Outside the Palace of Me
Shary Boyle's latest solo exhibit, Outside the Palace of Me, is multi-sensory: there are ceramics, paintings and a giant human figure that may terrify you when it suddenly turns its head.
But the exhibit does more than engage your senses — it jolts you into a reckoning. You start thinking about your identity and place in society.
Boyle has been been making groundbreaking art for a few decades now. In 2013, she represented Canada at the Venice Biennale. She spoke with Tom Power when Outside the Palace of Me was in Toronto last year.
