Ten years ago this week, Canadian rock legend Neil Young unveiled his long-gestating passion project, Pono. The digital music platform and player promised far better sound quality than the popular major streaming services. Unfortunately, the product flopped and swiftly became a music-industry punchline.
Music journalist Nate Rogers joins Elamin Abdelmahmoud to explain why consumers were so hostile to a product that actually offered a superior listening experience and what the Pono experience says about the way we listen to music today.
