Alex Harvey reaches podium for 1st time this season
Canadian cross-country skier finishes 3rd in 6th stage of Tour de Ski
Alex Harvey turned in a season-best third-place finish in the sixth stage of the Tour de Ski held in Val di Fiemme, Italy, on Saturday.
Competing in the 15-kilometre classic mass start, the St-Férréol-les-Neiges, Que., product posted a time of 38 minutes, 41.2 seconds.
"This was a good result, especially in classic. It is my first podium in classic-skiing since the world championships in 2015, and to do it on a really hard course here is really good," said Harvey.
It was the 25th World Cup medal for the 10-year veteran of the Canadian squad, and his eighth career podium on the Tour de Ski.
Kazakhstan's Alexey Poltoranin was the winner with a time of 38:40.3, followed by Andrey Larkov of Russia at 38:40.7.
The seventh and final stage of the competition is scheduled for Sunday.
Harvey enters the final day of competition fourth in the overall Tour de Ski standings. The 29-year-old's best finish on the prestigious Nordic skiing event came in 2016 when he was fifth.
Dario Cologna — who finished fourth on Saturday — leads the standings, followed by Poltoranin, and Sergey Ustiugov of Russia.
Harvey narrowly missed the podium on two occasions earlier this season. He finished fourth in the 15km pursuit free in Ruka, Finland, by less than one second, and came up 2.5 seconds short with another fourth-place result in the 15km event in Toblach, Italy.
