Alex Harvey misses World Cup x-country podium by 2.5 seconds
Canadian skier earns 4th-place result in 15km race in Toblach, Italy
Alex Harvey narrowly missed the podium in the 15-kilometre race at the fourth stage of the World Cup season in Toblach, Italy, on Saturday.
The Saint-Ferréol-les-Neiges, Que., native, who was in second after eight kilometres, ended up finishing fourth with a time of 30 minutes, 12.8 seconds and concluded his day just 2.5 seconds out of a medal spot.
It was the best distance race of Harvey's career on the Toblach trails.
"It's always bittersweet finishing in fourth. You always think about where you could have found a second here or there, but I did everything I could do today," said Harvey.
"For this time of the year, I'm taking the positive from this for sure."
Simen Hegstad Krueger of Norway won the race in 29:58.8, while France's Maurice Manificat clocked in at 30:09.4 for second place.
Harvey, 29, was also fourth as part of a close finish in a 15km race at the World Cup stop in Ruka, Finland, in November.
"I have had personal bests on a lot of different venues this year, so I'm really happy with where things are at," said Harvey.
