A Canadian diver heading to the Olympics in Rio now has a perfect 10 to add to his record.

Montreal's Philippe Gagné won the gold medal Saturday in Toronto during the men's three-metre event at the Olympic diving trials and summer nationals competition, Diving Canada said in a release.

"Getting the 10 was the highlight of my day because it had never happened to me before,'' said Gagné. "That dive has always been one of my best dives that's why I always save it until near the end."

The 18-year-old won with 481.85 points while Peter Thach Mai of Montreal finished second with a final score of 412.90 and Edmonton's Tyler Roberge came in third with 391.45 points.

On the same day, Celina Toth of St. Thomas, Ont., captured the women's 10-metre event with 339.50 points, Calgary's Caeli McKay had a score of 310.25 and Olivia Chamandy of Pointe-Claire, Que., came in third with 295.95 points.

"I felt very good about my performance,'' said Toth, 24. "Even though I scored higher in the preliminaries, I was actually more pleased with my final and how I came back strong from a poor dive."

Diving Canada said the weekend event was the final one in the Olympic selection process, even though all of the nominees had already been chosen based on their prior international results.

The Canadian Olympic diving team roster is expected to be announced Monday in Montreal.
