Jennifer Abel, Francois Imbeau-Dulac win bronze on last day of World Series

After winning a silver medal in women's 10-metre synchro on Day 1 of the FINA World Series, Canadian divers reached the podium once more on the final day of competition in Kazan, Russia.

Canada hadn't hit the podium since Day 1 of the FINA diving World Series event when Meaghan Benfeito and Roseline Filion won a silver medal in women's 10-metre synchro.

On the third and final day of competition, Jennifer Abel and Francois Imbeau-Dulac added a second medal to Canada's tally.

5th place finish starts Day 3

Pamela Ware was the first athlete in the pool on Day 3 in the 3m springboard final. The Pan-Am silver medallist in the event finished in fifth with a score of 309.10.

China's Zi He won gold with 388.20 points, Tania Cagnotto from Italy finished with 362.20 for silver and Maddison Keeney will bring a bronze medal home to Australia after scoring 352.15.

Ware's synchro partner Abel will compete in mixed 3m synchro later Sunday, the last event of the competition. She and partner Imbeau-Dulac dive against China, Mexico and Italy.

Bronze in 3m synchro

Mixed 3m synchro was the last event of the competition and Canada's final chance to get add to their lone medal from Kazan. Abel and Imbeau-Dulac represented Canada in a lineup including Mexico, Italy and China. The Canadian duo scored 321.36 points to claim the bronze medal in a tight race to the podium; the top three countries were all within 10 points of each other.

Gold medallists Han Wang and Hao Yang of China posted 330.30 points while Mexican silver medallists Dolores Hernandez and Jahir Ocampo were right behind them with a score of 327.06.

Canada didn't make podium on Day 2

Despite winning silver in the women's 10m synchro on Friday, Filion wasn't able to add another medal to her collection on Saturday.

She was the only Canadian who made the 10-metre platform final. The Laval, Que., native scored 343.75 points which gave her a fourth-place finish.

Chinese divers took two spots on the podium with Quian Ren winning gold at 367.35 points and Yajie Si claiming bronze with a score of 353.70. Great Britain's Tonia Couch won silver with 365.90. 

Filion's synchro teammate Meaghan Benfeito did not make it to the finals and finished 9th.

Gagné misses mark

Montreal's Philippe Gagné's 469 points put him in sixth place in the men's 3m springboard final.

Yuan Cao of China claimed the gold medal with a score of 521.90 while teammate Chao He's 520.15 won him bronze. Russia's Ilia Zakharov finished with 520.70 on home soil, giving him the silver medal.

The points Gagné gained from this event will go towards his battle with teammate and synchro partner Francois Imbeau-Dulac of Saint-Lazare, Que., for the last men's 3m spot in the Rio Olympics. 

Another 4th place finish in mixed 10m synchro 

The last event of the day was the mixed 10m synchro platform. Canadian duo of Benfeito and Vincent Riendeau lost the bronze medal; their 315.18 points put them five behind the Russians. The Canadians finished 40 points behind the gold medallists, China's Yani Chang and Xiahu Tai who scored 355.38. Australia won silver. 

Olympic team still TBA

Diving Plongeon Canada will look at the points garnered by its athletes to determine who will represent Canada in Rio. If the scores are too close there will be an Olympic trial held in Scarborough, Ont., from June 11-12.
