Meaghan Benfeito of Montreal won gold in the women's 10-metre tower on Saturday at the Winter Nationals diving competition in Saskatoon.

The two-time Olympian earned 389.75 points for the victory to reclaim the Canadian crown in the event. Celina Toth of London, Ont., was second at 330.15 and Montreal's Olivia Chamandy third at 300.45.

"I improved my entries in the final and that helped improve my score," said Benfeito. "I've changed my armstand dive and this one seems to be a lot more consistent for me. It relieves me of a lot of stress because I feel confident with it."

Toth was the summer nationals champion earlier this year, while also capturing silver at a FINA Grand Prix event and fourth at the World University Games.

"I'm pretty excited to open a new season with that kind of performance," said Toth. "I had a better preliminaries than final but still finishing over 325 is a pretty good score. I never expected to have such a great season this past year and it's good for the confidence."

Peter Thach Mai of Montreal won the men's one-metre with Club CAMO teammate Gabriel Corriveau second and Victoria's Ryan Grover third.
