Canadian soccer women eye 1st-ever victory over Germany
By Doug Harrison, CBC Sports
The Rio Olympic Games are in full swing and Canadians will be looking to build on some early success.
Here's a look at five events involving Team Canada that will be well worth your time.
Women's soccer: Canada vs. Germany
Canada looks to improve to 3-0-0 but faces a German side it has never beaten and one that has won three Olympic bronze medals. Expect coach John Herdman to give some of his top players rest ahead of Friday's quarter-finals.
Men's beach volleyball: Canada vs. Brazil
Putting away their opponent will be the goal for the Alberta tandem of Chaim Schalk and Ben Saxton against hometown favourites Pedro Solberg and Evandro Goncalves Oliveira Jr. of Brazil. Schalk and Saxton dropped their opener in Rio when their Latvian opponents scored three unanswered points to cap a three-set thriller.

Diving: Women's synchronized 10m platform
Canadians Roseline Filion and Meaghan Benefeito, competing at their third Olympics, will try to improve upon their bronze-medal finish in London four years ago in Tuesday's final. The 2015 Pan Am champions will probably face a stiff challenge from Chinese veteran Chen Roulin and her partner, Liu Huixia, who are heavily favoured to win gold.

Men's field hockey: Canada vs. the Netherlands
The Canadians will attempt to keep their fading quarter-final hopes alive when they face a tough Netherlands squad, which is 1-1 and coming off a 5-0 victory over Ireland. Canada dropped its first two preliminary-round games, 6-2 to Germany and 3-1 to Argentina.

Men's volleyball: Canada vs. Brazil
Coming off a shocking upset over the Americans, Canada's men's volleyball team faces another tough test against host Brazil in the feature match of the evening. Brazil won silver in the event in 2012 and 2008, and took gold in 2004.
