Andrew Wiggins's Olympic qualifier participation still up in the air
Tristan Thompson, Jamal Murray also questionable for July qualifying tourney
Andrew Wiggins' involvement in Basketball Canada's final push to qualify for the Rio Olympic Games remains questionable.
Wiggins was asked on April 12 about his participation, saying he'll "cross that bridge when [he gets] to it."
Canada Basketball had no comment regarding Wiggins' statement.
The final three spots in the Olympic men's basketball event will be decided by tournaments held in the Philippines, Serbia, and Italy, from July 4-10.
Canada, who begins play in the Philippines on July 5, will face tough competition from pool opponents Turkey as well as fifth-ranked France should they advance.
Canada could be further short-handed during the tournament. Cleveland Cavaliers forward Tristan Thompson and projected NBA first-round pick Jamal Murray may not participate as well.
Murray, who had a memorable performance in the Pan Am semifinals, declared himself eligible for the NBA draft after one season at the University of Kentucky.
Whether Murray, a potential lottery pick, would be made available for the July tournament by his new team is a separate concern.
"It would mean a lot. I love playing for Canada. I'm not sure how it's going to pan out yet, but if I am able to play, I'm looking forward to it," Murray said in a March interview.
Thompson did not participate in the 2015 Pan Am Games or the Olympic qualification tournament in Mexico City later that year due to protracted contract negotiations with the Cavaliers. With Cleveland expected to go on a deep postseason run, his availability is still up in the air.
Canada's full roster for the qualification tournament has yet to be announced.
