Andrew Wiggins non-committal for Olympic basketball qualifier

When Andrew Wiggins responded to a question about his status for Canada's men's basketball team this summer, his answer was non-committal. The Minnesota Timberwolves forward told a scrum of reports prior to his team's final game of the season that he "will cross that bridge when we get to it."

"Cross that bridge when we get to it."

That was the response given by Minnesota Timberwolves forward Andrew Wiggins earlier this week when asked about his status for Canada's national basketball team this summer.

So with a crucial last-chance Olympic qualifier around the corner in July, there appears to be a lack of commitment from the country's most high-profile player.

The story was reported by NBC Sports and is confirmed by a clip of the scrum that took place prior to Minnesota's final game of the season on Wednesday.

Wiggins was drafted first overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2014 but made his NBA debut with the Timberwolves after a blockbuster trade for Kevin Love.

The Vaughan, Ont., native earned rookie-of-the-year honours and continued to blossom in his sophomore season, averaging 20.7 points and 3.6 rebounds per game in 2015-16.

Wiggins did suit up for Canada at the 2015 FIBA Americas, where the team's attempt to qualify for Rio fell short.

The last-chance qualifier begins on July 4 in the Philippines.
