Russia throws some shade on Team Millennial

Team North America received a cryptic tweet from Team Russia just hours before their World Cup of Hockey faceoff.

If you didn't Snapchat it, did it even happen? (@TeamNA_WCH)

Were the Russians poking fun at their young opponents before Monday night's World Cup of Hockey matchup?

Hours before the 8 p.m. puck drop, Team Russia sent out a cryptic tweet, which when translated to English reads: Plans for the night

When communicating with Millennials, there is no better way to get your point across than emojis.

In case you weren't born between the generally accepted Millennial years of 1982-2002, we broke the tweet down for you:

Wake up, watch game tape, go eat, play, score goals, win the game, go to sleep.

It's a solid — and surprising — effort on Team Russia's social media account as they haven't used emojis like this in the past. But when you're talking Millennials, there's no one that does it better than Team North America's social media team.

Using words like "lit" followed by the fire emoji or having Chiddy Bang's "Opposite Of Adults" as their song when they score a goal undoubtedly reassures us that Team North America is full of Millennials ... and they're proud of it.

Aside from their birth year, there are other reasons why the Team North America roster is called Team Millennials. Here are a few ways to detect "Millennial-ism":

1. Snapchat:

For a Millennial, the toughest part of life is making it to the end of the month with just 2% data remaining on your limit.

And the biggest culprit of that data consumption is Snapchat, Instagram and other forms of "communication."

We know that Connor Hellebuyck, Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan have been there.

2. New Family Photo:

Forget kids, Millennials are all about their pets. Our fur-babies are better than children. We dress them up, have one too many nicknames for them, our phones are filled with pictures of them.

Shayne Gostisbehere is definitely on board with the lifestyle:

3. Bieber Fever:

This is one that Gen X'ers will never understand. But when Biebs drops a new song or album, there's a 100% chance that Millennials are listening to it, downloading it and lying about the fact that they actually do have Bieber Fever.

Let's give a nice shout out to Seth Jones for proudly listening to the Millennial legend himself:

4. Look Good, Feel Good, Play Good:

A common consensus among Gen X'ers is Millennials are pampered, sheltered and lazy. Although that's sometimes true, these hockey players have earned a well-deserved pedicure from time to time.

Jacob Trouba and friends spend a little "QT" (quality time for you X'ers) together.

5. Emoji Game Strong:

Sometimes the best messages are those that ONLY contain emojis.

Morgan Rielly knows exactly what we're talking about.

While these Young Guns won their first game against Finland, there's still a lot more hockey to play. In the meantime, we can only hope to see more Millennial references during the World Cup of Hockey.
