'My life revolves around hockey': Our Game star

Peewee player Dustin Shilton of Courtenay, B.C., is this week's Our Game star and has a chance to win tickets to the Stanley Cup Final.

In eight seasons with the Comox Valley Minor Hockey Association in Courtenay, B.C., Dustin Shilton has racked up an impressive number of accolades.

Captain, assistant captain, Super Sport award, Digger award, Most Valuable Player and now, Our Game Star.

It's the latest award for the peewee player in recognition of his contributions to the Our Game Community, where he routinely posts pictures of hockey action, whether they're of his team or his two favourite NHL clubs, the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks.

"My life revolves around hockey," says Shilton. "I just love the game."

That enthusiasm is obvious when you check out his community profile under his user name, Shilton_star.13. There, he's posted pictures of Calgary Flames Jarome Iginla and Miikka Kiprusoff, two of his favourite players, as well as shots of his own team.

The Our Game Community is a place where hockey fans can connect, share pictures, post blogs, add slideshows, join groups and discuss the game at the grassroots level.

Every week, Our Game selects an active community member as the Star of the Week, an honour that comes with a feature on Hockey Night in Canada and a chance to win tickets to the Stanley Cup finals.

Shilton's goal is to play in the NHL, and looking at his stats, he's on the right track. This season with the Slegg Lumber Lumberjacks, Shilton's scored 34 goals, and his friends call him "the star of the team."

A centreman who wears No. 12, Shilton is a proponent of non-violence in the sport, which is one of his favourite things about playing minor hockey.

"I think it's about learning the basics to hockey, how to play clean and know that you don't need to make a huge body check to get around a guy. Like me, I can just skate around them," he says. "It's all about speed."
