Jets invite local product Bodie to camp

The Winnipeg Jets announced Tuesday that four players with previous NHL experience will attend their upcoming training camp.

Local native Troy Bodie, goaltender David Aebischer, tough guy David Koci and Finnish native Janne Pesonen were signed to tryout contracts for camp.

Bodie had the most extensive NHL experience last season, suiting up for 50 games with Carolina. The gritty 26-year-old from Portage la Prairie has notched six goals, five assists and 141 penalty minutes in 107 NHL games, with a previous stop in Anaheim.

He was originally drafted by Edmonton after a strong WHL career with the Kelowna Rockets.

Swiss netminder Aebischer, 33, returns to North America after spending the past three seasons in his native country. He was the No. 1 goalie for Colorado in 2003-04 and has compiled 13 shutouts with a 2.52 goals-against average and 214 NHL games with the Avalanche, Montreal and Phoenix.

Koci's most recent NHL stop was Colorado, with previous turns in Chicago, St. Louis and Tampa Bay. The six-foot-six Prague native has racked up 461 penalty minutes in 141 NHL games.

Finnish forward Pesonen played seven games for Pittsburgh in 2008-09. The 29-year-old was originally drafted by Anaheim in 2004 and has spent the past two seasons in the KHL.

He won gold with Finland at the world championships in the spring.

The Jets open camp on Friday.
