The future looks bright for the Winnipeg Jets after a squad of prospects debuted with a 4-0 over the San Jose Sharks' rookies on Monday night.

It was the first game for the Jets at the Young Stars Tournament in Penticton, British Columbia.

Jets' first-ever draft pick, Mark Scheifele, scored on a shorthanded breakaway and added an assist in the victory.

Levko Koper opened the scoring and added another, while Winnipeg-born Jason Gregoire also netted one.

Jets' goalie Edward Pasquale made 27 saves in the shutout.

The tournament, being held Sept. 11 to 15, features the best prospects from five teams — the Jets, Sharks, Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, and the host team Vancouver Canucks.

The Sharks opened the tournament on Sunday with a 6-1 win over the Flames.

The Jets next play Tuesday night against the Oilers and then Thursday afternoon against the Canucks.
