Roughriders general manager Brendan Taman is sticking to his word on working diligently to re-sign his own free agents.

Saskatchewan on Wednesday announced the return of linebacker Tad Kornegay.

He stood out in his fifth Canadian Football League season in 2009, earning a West Division all-star nod after posting 74 defensive tackles, 10 special teams tackles, three interceptions, three pass knockdowns and three fumble recoveries.

The 27-year-old Kornegay also filled in at cornerback, defensive halfback and safety.

"That was big for us last year," Taman told the Regina Leader-Post.

Kornegay, who broke into the league in 2005 with Hamilton, is heading into his fourth season with the Riders. He was acquired from the Tiger-Cats in a June 2007 trade.

Szarka signs on for 14th season

Taman has also re-signed veteran Canadian fullback Chris Szarka.

The 2009 campaign will mark the Vancouver-born running back's 14th year in the CFL.

Szarka rushed 15 times for 78 yards and six touchdowns in 18 games last season. He also caught three passes for 20 yards.

In 206 regular-season games, Szarka has amassed 1,702 yards on 429 carries while adding 1,295 yards on 97 receptions.
