Marc Trestman may still leave the Montreal Alouettes, but it won't be for the University of Miami.

Al Golden, head coach of Temple University, accepted the same position with the Hurricanes on Sunday.

"From the beginning of this process, one candidate stood above the rest as the right fit," athletic director Kirby Hocutt said in a statement. "We are proud to welcome Al Golden to The U. His desire, leadership, communications skills and preparedness stood above the rest, and he is the right man to meet the championship expectations of this program."

The 41-year-old Golden holds an impressive resumé with the Owls, resurrecting the program that was 1-11 in 2006 to a 9-4 record in 2009 and 8-4 this season.

Trestman, one of four finalists that included Connecticut coach Randy Edsall and Texas Tech's Tommy Tuberville, was interviewed for the job earlier Sunday by Miami athletic director Kirby Hocutt.

The highly respected two-time Grey Cup champion with the Montreal Alouettes coached three years in CFL and spent 20 seasons as an NFL assistant. Trestman started his coaching career with the Hurricanes in the early 1980s. He also has a law degree from the school.

His name was also mentioned in connection with the vacancy at his alma mater, the University of Minnesota, but that position was also filled recently.
