BlackJacks pull off upset against Bandits

Johnny Berhanemeskel scored 24 points to lead the Ottawa BlackJacks to a 90-84 upset victory over the visiting Fraser Valley Bandits on Saturday night in CEBL action.

The local Ottawa native hit a game-high four three-pointers while also adding four assists and three rebounds to help the BlackJacks (2-4) snap a three-game losing skid.

Ottawa forwards Nick Ward and Dominique Archie were also instrumental in the win with 17 and 16 points, respectively.

The BlackJacks carried a 51-37 lead into halftime after starting strong with a season-high 31 points in the opening quarter.

The Bandits (4-2) battled back in the second half to pull within two points, leaving Ottawa with a 81-79 lead entering the Elam Ending.

Ottawa's Junior Cadougan hits 3 free throws in a row to defeat Fraser Valley 90-84.

Toronto's Junior Cadougan ended up sealing the win for the BlackJacks by making three straight free throws to reach the target score of 90.

The Bandits (4-2) have now dropped two straight after kicking off the season with a four-game winning streak.

Ottawa's next test comes Monday against the winless Guelph Nighthawks (0-4), while Fraser Valley will aim to bounce back against Guelph on Wednesday.

Undefeated Stingers cruise past Rattlers

The Edmonton Stingers rolled past the Saskatchewan Rattlers 87-56 for a second-straight game to remain on top of the CEBL table on Saturday.

After Edmonton trounced Saskatchewan by 41 points to record a lopsided 108-66 victory on Thursday, to two sides one again locked horns with similar results. The league leaders, however, surprisingly trailed 18-17 after the first quarter.

But the Stingers rode an explosive second – limiting the host Rattlers to just five points - to take a 46-23 lead into the half.

Defending champion Edmonton Stingers improve to 5-0 with a 87-56 victory over Saskatchewan Rattlers who are still searching for their first win.

While the Rattlers continued to show fight, the damage had been done.

Marlon Johnson scored 21 points to lead the Stingers' offence, while Jordan Baker added 20 to help Edmonton notch its fifth straight victory and improve to 5-0 on the season. Johnson and Baker each collected a game-high 11 rebounds. 

Mississauga, Ont., native Devonte Bandoo led Saskatchewan with 15 points.

The Rattlers (0-6) remain winless but will get another shot at Edmonton when the two teams battle again on Monday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
