Stingers blow out winless Rattlers to remain unbeaten

Xavier Moon scored 20 of his 23 points in the final quarter to help the Edmonton Stingers (4-0) cruise past the Saskatchewan Rattlers (0-5) 101-58 on Tuesday, and move into first place in the CEBL standings.

Mathieu Kamba and Jordan Baker poured in 18 and 16 points for Edmonton, respectively, with Adika Peter-Mcneilly adding 15 more from the bench.

Mambi Diawara scored 21 points and added 4 assists for Saskatchewan, but to no avail, as his team remains one of the two CEBL squads along with the Guelph Nighthawks, still looking to earn their first win of the season.

The Stingers took a comfortable 15-point lead in the first quarter, a preview of what was to come as they pushed the gap to 19 and 24 points at the end of the second and third quarters.

Edmonton stays undefeated with a convincing 101-60 win over Saskatchewan who are still searching for their first victory.

Moon, the 2019 CEBL MVP, exploded in the final quarter, scoring 20 points, including the final basket in the Elam Ending period. The 43-point win is the biggest margin of victory in the 2021 CEBL season so far.

Edmonton, who saw their 2020 CEBL Championship banner lifted at the Edmonton EXPO Centre during the pre-game ceremony, now sits at the top of the league after the Niagara River Lions handed the Fraser Valley Bandits their first loss of the year.

The two teams will face each other again at the SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, Sask., on Saturday.

River Lions hand Bandits 1st loss of season

Xavier Sneed scored 20 points and added 7 assists to lead the Niagara River Lions (3-2) past the Fraser Valley Bandits (4-1) 103-82, handing the league leaders their first loss of the season in CEBL action on Tuesday.

Jaylen Babb Harrison and Javin Delaurier added 19 and 18 points for Niagara, respectively. Malcolm Duvivier led Fraser Valley with 17.

Niagara wins 103-82 and improves their record to 3-2. Fraser Valley suffers first loss and falls to 4-1.

Fraser Valley reached halftime leading by one point, but Niagara proceeded to score 37 points in the third quarter — the most by a team in a single quarter in the current season. The run left the River Lions up by 21 points.

The River Lions then hit cruise control until the start of the Elam Ending. Leading 93-73, Niagara allowed Fraser Valley to score six unanswered points.

Niagara eventually picked up the pace to reach and pass the target scoring with a Daniel Walden-Mullings three-pointer to pick up a second straight win.

Fraser Valley continues its road trip with a game against the Ottawa BlackJacks (1-4) on Saturday, while Niagara next visits the Hamilton Honey Badgers (4-1) on Sunday.
