The reported contract could mean the end of the road for any potential deal with free-agent slugger Edwin Encarnacion, whose agent confirmed his client rejected the Jays' contract offer.
Last season, Morales primarily served as a designated hitter for the Kansas City Royals playing only 10 games at first base.
With that being said, the Cuban native is expected to fill the same role in the upcoming season.
The 33-year-old Morales is a 10-year MLB veteran who's played for the Los Angeles Angels, Seattle Mariners, Minnesota Twins and Kansas City Royals.
He batted .263 with 30 home runs and 93 RBIs for Kansas City in 2016.
Morales has a .275 career batting average with 132 home runs.
He has made the post-season four times — including three straight years with the Angels, from 2007-09 — and won a World Series with the Royals in 2015.
