Aparna Nancherla grew up being really shy. In fact, her mom used to make her order pizzas as an exercise to be more assertive. But all these years later, she's not only conquering it through performing onstage — she also recently put out her debut comedy album, Just Putting It Out There.

Nancherla speaks to host Tom Power about her album, how fellow comedian Tig Notaro encouraged her to do this and how jokes can help "take a little air out of heavy topics."
