Why comic Jen Kirkman looks forward to getting older

If comedian Jen Kirkman met someone with the power to send her back to her 20s — she says she'd run.

Jen Kirkman's divorce has made for great stand up material, but that fork in the road is just one of many. The unflinching comedian returns to q to discuss her new book, I Know What I'm Doing: And Other Lies I Tell Myselfand her hard-earned pointers for other people just trying to figure it out. (Yes, that's still a thing when you're in your 40s.)

"There's no time wasted. There's no should-have-been-here by this point," says Kirkman, adding that bracing yourself for the bomb — as one does in comedy — is a pretty good way to approach life.

The comic also shares what she learned from Joan Rivers, and why she looks forward to giving even less of a damn as she ages. (Especially about dudes who give her unwanted attention, and tell her she'll regret being ungrateful when she's older.)

"When I'm older, I won't care," says Kirkman. "When I'm 50, imagine what I'll say!"
