Dolly Parton: 'You're never old unless you choose to be'

Dolly Parton is back with 'Pure and Simple.' The album sees the legendary country singer taking on a topic she understands profoundly: love.

Pure and Simple.

That's not only the name of Dolly Parton's new record, but also a nod to the legendary country singer's views on life and love.

In an interview recorded this spring, Parton joins Shad to discuss the heartfelt collection of love songs she wrote for her 50th wedding anniversary, and her trust in a larger plan.

"You just have to learn how to let up, how to turn loose, when to move ahead, and when to be peaceful," she says. "That's kind of like how I live my life."

Parton also explains why her view of love hasn't changed much over the decades, adding that romance is as real to a kindergarten child as it is to a senior in a nursing home. Many of the youthful love songs she wrote decades ago still resonate with her today.

"You're never old unless you choose to be," says Parton. "I'll be 16 forever, just as long as you love me."

Pure and Simple is out on Friday.
