In today's opening essay, Jian salutes the organizers of New York City's St. Patrick's Day Parade for "finally marching into the 21st century" and allowing an LGBT group to participate in the annual celebration of Irish culture.

Following much protest and mounting pressure from corporate sponsors, OUT@NBCUniversal will become the first LGBT group to march in the parade under their own banner.
