Unknown Mortal Orchestra performs in studio q
Today's Friday Live guests have been known mostly to insider fans of low-fi indie-rock the past five years, but their third album shows they're ready for a much larger audience.
The SXSW music festival described New Zealand-American trio Unknown Mortal Orchestra's sound as "hip hop-influenced percussion with insanely catchy, fuzzed-out guitar riffs and Motown."
Ruban Nielson, the brains behind the band, has centred its third record around a very personal experience with polyamory. The band performs throughout the show in studio q from their latest, Multi-Love.
Ruban also sits down with q guest host Rachel Giese to talk about embracing the insomnia that fuels his creative output, and collaborating with his father on an album for the first time.
You can check out Unknown Mortal Orchestra's upcoming tour dates, and buy their albums either on their official website, or their Facebook page.
