Kenny's parents want a divorce. His sister admits to stealing money. His brother is anorexic. And Kenny comes out as gay. These aren't the plot points of your typical family comedy.

Actor Noah Galvin joins Shad to discuss the disruptive new show The Real O'Neals, which peels back the layers of a seemingly picture-perfect Irish Catholic family. Galvin reflects on coming out on and off screen, as well as subverting mainstream coming-of-age stories on television.

The actor speaks addresses the "great responsibility" he feels to be part of a show that is normalizing the gay experience. He also reflects on helping kids who reach out to him about their own struggles. (Still something he's getting used to).

Galvin's on-screen character, Kenny, is based on a young Dan Savage — sex columnist and gay activist — who is an Executive Producer on the show.
