Organist Cameron Carpenter throws out rulebook

Cameron Carpenter talks about bringing the organ into the 21st century, and challenges stereotypes about organists that you didn't know you had.

With his fearless wardrobe, edgy hair and atheist views, Cameron Carpenter is not your typical organist.

He is known as a "smasher of cultural and classical-music taboos," but that was never his intention. Driven by a deep passion for his instrument, Carpenter has inadvertently changed the organ world forever.

The Grammy nominee is credited for creating the International Touring Organ — the first digital version of the instrument — but personally he is more concerned with the message behind his medium.

Currently on tour across Canada, with a stop at Toronto's Koerner Hall tonight, he swings through studio q to chat with Shad.

Cameron Carpenter is currently touring Canada playing his revolutionary digital organ.
