Katie Roiphe explores the beauty of our final moments

Writer Katie Roiphe opens up about her new book, "The Violet Hour: Great Writers At The End," and the role closure plays in having a good death.
Writer Katie Roiphe believes there is comfort in talking about death.

Ever since her brush with death as a child, Katie Roiphe has wrestled with the complexities of dying. When the journalist's father suddenly died of a heart attack, her fascination became a full-blown investigation.

Interestingly, the more Roiphe talked about dying, the more she found solace. "Looking at death unsentimentally was kind of comforting" she tells Shad.

In her new book The Violet Hour: Great Writers At The End, Riophe examines the nuances of death through the works of great authors and interviews with people those writers left behind.
