Giller Prize juror Lynn Coady discusses this year's "diverse and exciting" long list

The Giller Prize has announced its high anticipated long list and juror, and previous winner, Lynn Coady opens up about the process behind narrowing down the list of contenders to 12 titles.

Canadian literature's most prestigious prize is the Giller Prize and it will be handed out later this year. But before we get to the gala and the announcement of the winner, today marks the day when the long list for the award will be announced.

The announcement of the long list, compiled by jury members Nathan Englander, Anita Rau Badami, Lynn Coady, Richard Beard and André Alexis, was made in St. John's, N.L., this morning.

The longlist for the 2017 Scotiabank Giller Prize is:
