Pete Holmes believes he is where he's at right now — a successful comedian about to premiere a new show on HBO — because of a series of events earlier in his life. Those events include getting married at 22 and divorcing at 28.

"Every experience is your teacher," he says. "Things that we don't want are kind of the exact things that we need sometimes."

The aforementioned show, Crashing, follows that divorce and what Holmes describes as "what it's like when you're not funny yet."

Holmes joins host Tom Power today to discuss the creation of Crashing and how religion has played a significant role in his life and career over the years.

Crashing premieres on Sunday, Feb. 19.
