For 25 years, David Suchet performed the role of Hercule Poirot, the well-known Belgian detective created by author Agatha Christie. Poirot's final show aired on Britian's ITV in November. But for Mr. Suchet, the detective work continues.

This weekend, "The Last Confession" opens at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto.

The play explores the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of Pope John Pope I, who died in 1978, after only thirty-three days in office.  He told Carol the play isn't about religion, but about exploring the great mystery surrounding the Pope's death.

David Suchet plays Cardinal Giovanni Benelli, who is investigating the Pope's death. He joined Carol in the As it Happens studio for a feature interview.
