It's a Trekkie's fantasy. A Vancouver man has put his custom Star Trek boogie van up for sale on Craigslist. The 1978 GMC Vandura is airbrushed with images from the television show.
And, it gets better. The van's interior is covered top to bottom in diamond quilted red velvet. Think Captain Kirk love den.
Brian Geddes listed the van on Craigslist earlier this week. It's priced at nearly ten-thousand dollars.
He tells As it Happens guest-host Laura Lynch, "It's pretty ridiculous from the outside to be perfectly blunt."
"The funny thing for me is that I'm not actually a Star Trek fan. I don't know much about it," said Geddes. "I'm more about vehicles and cars and I like the 80s subcultre of the boogie vans and stuff."
Geddes and his wife have decided to sell the car because, with two young boys, driving it can be "cumbersome."
But, the Star Trek van will be missed.
"Whatever you think of it and how ridiculous everyone thinks it is...it always brings a smile to people's faces and that's fun," said Geddes.
Here are some more pictures of the van:
UPDATE:
Check out the Craigslist listing here. On Monday, the link wasn't working. Geddes says that Craigslist pulled the ad down because someone reported it as spam. He says he's working with Craigslist to get the posting back online. Apparently, there has been a lot of interest in his boogie van, including from a few prospective buyers. Geddes hopes to make a sale later this week.
