New exhibit celebrates Black excellence in teaching in Guelph
Did you know Ontario's first Black principal was from Guelph? Alfred Mitchell Lafferty led the Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute in 1872 — over 150 years ago. For Black History Month, a new exhibit is looking to celebrate Black excellence in teaching, exploring figures in education. Marsha Hinds Myrie from the University of Guelph is behind the travelling exhibit, which features 11 other notable educators from past and present. It's showing at the downtown main branch of the Guelph Public Library this week, and you can see it next week at the Westminster branch.
